This is Miguel. I met Miguel on a job in Marysville on Friday. Born and raised in Yuba City, Miguel is a pipe-fitter and welder. As a kid, he got into trouble, dropped out of high school and fathered a child. 5 years later he ended up in a program called ‘Youth Build’. They helped him get his high school diploma and put him through a pre-apprentice program for his current trade. After the program, Miguel joined the union and spent 5 years working days and schooling at night to become a journeyman. Now, Miguel is married and has 4 kids, a dog, and his own home. He likes rock and country music and is learning the guitar. He likes the Zach Brown Band and Quentin Tarantino movies. Miguel is 29.

Favorite Accomplishments: Becoming a journeyman out of the union. Buying my own home.

Regrets: Getting into the wrong group of people as a kid. Doing drugs. Becoming a parent to early.

What are your passions and obsessions? Family! Horseshoes and golf. I like to draw.

What’s the toughest thing you’ve ever gone through? 5 years of work and school through the union.

What’s something about you that surprises people? That I’ve worked since I was 16. That I like country music and that I’m learning the guitar.

What do you think of the new immigration law in AZ? I’m on the fence (no pun intended). We end up paying all those taxes to deal with illegal immigrants and I don’t want anymore taxes.

Sound Off! The working man pays for everything! People are always looking for handouts when they should be working hard. People need to quit suing each other, we are all Americans and we need to stay united. Take care of your kids!
