This is Sutana. I met Sutana tonight, outside of Safeway, with her boyfriend Jacob. Sutana is a Stockton native, but moved to Sac after going to an all-black, all-girls college in Greensboro, North Carolina. Bennett College is an HBCU (Historically Black Colleges and Universities) and Sutana received a degree in journalism. She also tried teaching, kindergarten through 2nd grade, while in North Carolina but now has settled on trying out photography as a career. While she works on that, she keeps a day job at the Old Spaghetti Factory as a hostess and lives downtown with Jacob. They met in high school, liked each other but couldn’t say it, and they both ended up leaving the area. Jacob finally looked her up and stalked her on Facebook until she called him. Hey… it worked. Sutana is 21.

Favorite Accomplishments: Going away to an all-girls school in North Carolina and not losing my mind completely.

Regrets: Allowing my shyness to interfere with taking chances and opportunities to pursue my dreams.

What are your passions and obsessions? Film!! Photoghraphy, art and writing.

What’s the toughest thing you’ve ever done? Being a teacher.

What’s your favorite thing about Sacramento? It’s a mini San Francisco.

Why don’t you live in San Francisco? It’s too expensive there! I’ve been eating Raman for the last 4 years, I’m ready to stop that.

What’s something about you that might even surprise someone who knows you? I don’t really like a lot of people. I know that sound terrible. I’m friendly to everyone, but long term….that’s harder.

Sound Off! Question for the day: “What am I going to do to make tomorrow better?”
