This is Winter. Winter was born in San Francisco, but grew up in Sacramento. She’s in Southern California this week, looking at colleges. She’s a junior at the Sacramento Waldorf School and wants to study communications. So far Occidental and Chapman are at the top of the list. Winter loves dance and has a job at Art Beast, a children’s art studio at K and 23rd, where she hosts birthday parties and teaches dance. Winter loves music, anything from Mozart to Lady Gaga. She loves the movies Avatar, The Notebook, Dirty Dancing, Havana Nights, and The Hangover. Her favorite book is A Tree Grows In Brooklyn. Winter is 17.

Favorite Accomplishments: Getting a job by 17. Making the competition dance team (hip-hop) and dancing in the Sacramento Ballet’s “Nutcracker”. Buying my own iphone with my own hard-earned money.

Regrets: Doing dumb selfish things that ruined a friendship. Going to a public school for 2 years.

What are your passions and obsessions? Dancing and writing. I’m still figuring out my passions. I’m obsessed with organizing and scheduling, which can be annoying.

What’s the toughest thing you’ve ever had to do? I’d say switching to a public school, for two years, that had 2,30o kids in a new neighborhood. I didn’t know anybody.

What is something about you, that even people who know you, would be surprised to know? I’m vegan, very liberal, and a tree hugger. People think I’m girly and materialistic, but I’m obsessed with recycling and I care a lot about politics, especially the gay marriage issue.

Sound Off! People think vegans don’t get enough protein, but we do! Tofu, beans, and seeds are three examples. Adults need to relax and trust teenagers until we give them a reason not to. The things we are deprived of, we’re going to crazy with when we finally get the chance. Relax.
