This is Nichole. I met Nichole as she was leaving the Southside Market on T St. She was on a walk with her 1-year-old daughter Shante, who walks quite well, but was enjoying the stroller and her bag of chips. Nichole is originally from Dayton, Ohio but left there when she was 13 and has lived in Sac ever since. She has two other children, a 14-year-old and a 9-year-old. She is married, for 2 years now, to Shante’s father and they all live together in Southside. She is a stay-at-home mom and will be getting a nursing degree through online studies. She transfers to AZ State’s online program this fall. Nichole likes to get her kids outside and take them to places like the zoo and the Monterey Bay Aquarium. She likes mellow music, R&B and jazz. No rap. The family likes to go to Sandra Dee’s and have Southern food and listen to the bands. The sweet potatoes are her favorite. Nichole is 31.

Favorite Accomplishments: Becoming independent and being able to take care of my family. Getting married. It was something I never thought I would do.

Regrets: Not going to college right after high school.

What are your passions and obsessions? Taking care of my kids and giving them better than what I had.

What is something that people are surprised to know about you? That I had another baby after all this time. People that haven’t seen me in a while can’t believe it.

Sound Off! Life is what you make it, so make the best of it!

Indeed.
