This is Troy or as some may know him, Mr. Mighty. Troy is an artist, a musician, a dad, a human cloud, and the After-Care Cordinater at Camellia Waldorf School. Troy was born in El Cajon and when he was 8, the family moved to Tehachapi, where his dad was a prison guard. Troy loved it in Tehachapi, but the family soon moved to Fair Oaks, and Troy ended up in downtown Sac when he was 16. A couple of years later, his son Ethan was born. The story of Ethan, says Troy, is that mistakes happen, sometimes with very positive results. They are now close and have been having some hot chess matches lately. Working where his son attends school is also a bonus. Troy now works his life around his job and son, and feels very settled for once. The Waldorf philosophies fit right in with where he his in his life. About 10 years ago, Troy, at the insistence of a friend, began pursuing art and music seriously. As far as artistic influences, until recently, he didn’t even like art. But he says children and their fearlessness and sense of creation inspire him. Art is meditation. Musically, it’s all over the map, but Tropicalia, Jorge Ben, hip-hop, and good crooners have been on the radar this year. Besides his own band, Dead Western, Troy is now playing drums for the newly resurrected, Vichy Water. Troy is 29.
Favorite Accomplishments: Helping to raise a healthy, trusting, upright little boy. Writing songs that speak some truth and being able to share them with the world. Having avoided breaking a bone or being stung by a bee. The few opportunities I’ve had to fall in love and the joys and sorrows that go with such intimate sharing.
Regrets: I don’t have any. Everything’s landed me where I am now, and I’m very happy with where I am now.
What are your passions and obsessions? Music, especially listening to it, but also playing it. Sunshine, which allows for two other passions: Growth and Life.
Sound Off! Seek your sense of Self. Hint: it does not live with Jesus.
