This is Mary Jo. I met Mary Jo at the American River College cafeteria tonight where she was eating with a friend. Mary Jo is a Sac native and is into painting and photography, and who’s favorite music is made by people who play their own instruments. She plays one of her own, the viola. She likes playing jazz. Her artistic influences are Klint, O’Keefe, and Ansel Adams. Mary Jo went to Sac State where she received a Master’s in Art Education. She teaches all subjects to the 5th graders at Woodridge Elementary School. Mary Jo is 44.

Favorite Accomplishments: Becoming a teacher. Getting my Master’s degree. Creating beauty everyday. Making a difference in the lives of students I currently teach and those that have moved on.

Regrets: That I’m not taller!

What are your passions/obsessions? Children learning! Art, creating art, creating music and finding originality in creation.

What’s your favorite thing about teaching? When the kids get it, when they get something new.

What’s your least favorite thing about teaching? The money and the pay cuts. The Governor!

Sound Off! Be kind. Teach peace! Learn something new every day!

What did you learn today? That district assessments are stupid!

Thank you Mary Jo.
