This is Mark, I caught Mark coming out of Crazy Heart at the Tower Theatre this afternoon. Mark is an engineer and lifelong guitarist and singer, having played in rock bands since the 70’s. He’s not currently in a band but will be singing in the Sacramento Opera Association’s production of La Traviata starting on Febuary 26th. He’s in the chorus and was on his way home to practice. He went to the Strawberry Music Festival last year and caught the bluegrass bug after seeing Del McCoury. And now, after seeing Crazy Heart he’s ready for some country. Rock, country, bluegrass, and opera. Everyone should have a musical palette that wide. Mark also does non-profit work and sits on the board of the Northern California Aids Challenge (http://www.norcalaidschallenge.net/). He was raised in Cincinnati, lived in Chicago, and has been in Sac for 4 years. Mark is 49.
Favorite Accomplishments: Performing and writing music. My underwater photography, some of which has been entered into contests. I’ve photographed in many places including Raja Ampat and Wakatobi.
Regrets: Not pursuing relationships more seriously. Not learning how to read earlier in life. I just thought I was going to be a musician all of my life and didn’t give much attention to reading until after college.
What are your passions/obsessions? Music and nature, and the preservation of nature. I’ve been to the Galapagos Islands and belong to an organization to help preserve that wonderful place. I also love riding bikes.
Did you like Crazy Heart? Oh yeah! I thought it was well written and believable. Jeff Bridges was great.
Sound Off! What’s with all this rain?! I chose Sacramento because Portland and Seattle are too wet. But I love it here. (El Nino strikes again.)
Thanks Mark. Good luck with that Italian.
